Which schema version belongs to which Exchange

During a search I found this nice kb article which explains how you can see which schema version you are using for Exchange and AD.

To find out which version you are using you will need to use a tool such as adsiedit. Below the full path where you can find the information plus a short overview which explains which versionnumber belongs to which Exchange version:

“CN=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local”

Check the value filled in at the following parameter rangeupper

4397 -> Exchange Server 2000 RTM
4406 -> Exchange Server 2000 with Service Pack 3
6870 -> Exchange Server 2003 RTM
6936  -> Exchange Server 2003 with Service Pack 2
10628 -> Exchange Server 2007
11116 -> Exchange 2007 with Service Pack 1

For more information have a look at the site below

How to find the current Schema Version

During my visit to a forum I found this site. The site is an idea of Shawn McGrath and is developed by Brad Hughes. This site makes it possible to test your Exchange environment from the internet. It makes it possible to test:

  • the autodiscovery functionaliteit of Exchange 2007
  • RPC/HTTP functionaliteit of Outlook 2003
  • ActivSync Autodiscovery
  • Exchange ActivSyc
  • SMTP

A couple of nice test which can be pretty handy.

As you may already know a lot of funtions from Exchange 2007 are using certificates. Microsoft has released a tool a while ago which can check certificates that are used for certificate based authentication for ActivSync. I just found it while surfing the internet en thought maybe it’s nice so that’s why I published it on my site. You can download the tool via the link below:
