Make OCS client available in OWA

Since Exchange 2007 it’s possible to use your OCS and Exchange together. First you had only the option to use your OCS environment with the Exchange UM server which let you use the voicemail, subscriber access and auto attendant features from Exchange in OCS

The latest addition to this is a limited OCS client integrated in OWA. This gives you the ability to send IM messages via OWA and gives you the option to see precense information.

In this tutorial I will explain how you can install this new feature.

Autodiscover in a multiforest environment

It has been a while ago since the last tutorial, so here is the new one about autodiscover in a multiforest environment. Normally autodiscover may cause some headaches so when deploying it in a multiforest environment this may also be the case. In this tutorial I will explain how you can configure and test autodiscover in a multiforest environment.

Moving logs of a CCR enabled storage group

Exchange 2007 shared address space

Sometimes you will find the situation having several types of mailservers within one organization, for example Exchange in combination with another mailserver.

But how can you arrange that Exchange will accept the mail, checks if the recipient exists on the Exchange server and if not will forward it to the other mailserver,

In this tutorial we will ensure that mail which is send to the domain johanveldhuis.nl will be accepted by Exchange and if the user does not exist Exchange will forward it to the other mailserver.

Organizational forms in Exchange 2007

Organizational forms library

It has been a while ago since my last tutorial, today it’s time for a new tutorial. In this tutorial I will explain how you can configure Organizational forms in Exchange 2007. Organizational forms can be used to publish forms that can be accessed by every user who has access to Exchange.

Several applications are using this option, one of them is Commvault Mailbox Archiver.

Redirect port 80 to 443 with IIS

I think you may have needed it in the passed, you want to prevent that users can access a website on port 80 but also want to prevent they got an error displayed. The script below is the solution for this issue, it will redirect the user to the https version of the website.

The script can be placed in the root of the webserver in case of IIS this is wwwroot.

redirect.htm (bron)

<script language=”JavaScript”>function goElseWhere()

<!– begin hide

var oldURL = window.location.hostname + window.location.pathname;

var newURL = “https://” + oldURL;

window.location = newURL;

// end hide –>

The last step is to configure IIS to display this page instead of the default error page.

First how to do this in IIS 6.

Start the IIS Manager and get the properties of the default website. Select the tab called Custom Errors and search for HTTP error 403.4 .

When found select it and push the edit button, this will open the following window.

Select browse and search for the file redirect.htm which you have placed in the root of IIS. Click on OK to select the file and click on OK again to close the window above. A warning will be displayed that this error is also used by other virtual directories/websites. Click on JOK and restart IIS.

To change the custom error in IIS 7 you must follow the steps below.

Open the IIS Manager and select the Default Website, in the right part of the manager several icons are displayed.

Select the icon Error Pages, an overview of default error pages will be displayed. Right click somewhere on the white space en select add. The following window will be displayed.

Fill in the fields as specified below:

  • status code: 403.4
  • file path: %systemroot%\Inetpub\wwwroot\redirect.htm

Clickon OK and restart IIS.

When visiting the site http://webmail.domein.nl you will get redirected to https://webmail.domein.nl.

Block unknown internal domains with Trend Micro IMSS

Maybe you have seen it mails from unknown domains will be relayed via the internal mailserver or mailserver that is placed in the DMZ. Normally when configuring the mailservers correctly it’s not possibly to send mail from a domain which is not hosted on the internal mailserver. But it can also be that a virus is active on a mailserver which is allowed to relay.

In this tutorial I will explain how you can create a policy in Trend Micro IMSS to prevent this. The way of configuring is not really the way you think you have to do it, but the endresult will work.

Modify Out Of Office settings on the Exchange Server

Nice that users can define Out Of Office settings but what can you configure as an administrator for the Out Of Office settings. More then you think, besides this there are a few nice features in Exchange 2007 which prevent unnecessary OOF messages.

In this tutorial I will explain the administrator side of OOF, I will explain how you can configure it per remote domain and per user.

It has been a while ago that I published a tutorial. Today it’s time for a new one, this time about dynamic distribution groups, a new feature from Exchange 2007. In this tutorial I will explain how you can create a dynamic distribution group via the Exchange Management Console and Exchange Management Shell. Besides this I will describe somethings that you should keep in mind while creating them.
